When people say, "conflicts in the Middle East," they have no idea how many things they have just summed up. The Taliban and its rules is just a minor thing. Arabs in the Middle East went a long time before gaining their independence and self- leadership. When they did, however, most of their government was separate from their religion. Soon, people began to integrate their sharia, or Islamic religious law, into their governments.
Osama bin Laden, leader of al-Qaeda, was one of these people who called for this change. He was an Islamic fundamentalist, a terrorist, and an overall very dangerous person. He joined the World Islamic Front, a group that tells Muslims that they should and must kill Americans. They also wrote this article, so they are quite supportive of this idea.
The World Islamic Front's views are quite extreme, and they follow what Allah (the Muslim god) has supposedly written in his holy book called the Koran, telling them to "slay the pagans," or to kill the nonbelievers of Islam. The group believes that America's actions in their area are cruel and sinful, going as far as to call it terrorism. They think that these actions are a "clear declaration of war against Allah," and add that killing Americans is nearly obligatory for Muslims. Al-Qaeda and several other terrorist groups have been trying to fulfill that goal, through attacks on America such as the bombing of the USS. Cole and the 9/11 attacks.
The Taliban believe that they are doing the right thing by following these rules. However, most people agree that this is extreme, fundamental behavior. The Taliban have worked to increase their reign of terror, and they are still a growing problem in our modern world.
